Healing a Fractured World

“Moreover, the Church is a spiritual hospital, where we all are called to find the healing of our fallen humanity through Jesus Christ, who assumed human nature in order to restore it.”

              — Part of the Statement released by the Assembly of Canonical   Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America

In a world fractured by dissension, lack of meaning, illness and disease, pain, suffering, guilt, sin and disunity, a new community and religious Order to advance healing in the fullest sense of the world has been founded.

The Holy Order of St. Luke the Healer is an independent religious order  composed of medical and healthcare professionals in the widest sense of the terms. We are doctors, nurses, EMTs, osteopaths, acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopaths, midwives, herbalists, massage therapists, psychologists and counselors- well, you get the idea!

We recognize that health includes not only a healthy body but also a healthy mind and soul. Science is showing us that how deeply the mind affects the body.  All the more when considering the spirit. Deception, guilt, a spiritual life lacking in meaning and purpose also have an impact on both the body and mind.

All these negative things which the Church classifies as sin contribute to illness in all its forms, even the greater body of society. Christ said that prayer and faith can “move mountains” and the noetic sciences are beginning to prove just that.

Historically, healthcare in Western Europe, such as it was, often fell to monasteries and monks skilled in herbal medicine. But in the Eastern Byzantine Empire, medicine flourished, as an integration of mind, body and spirit and was well established as early as 400 A.D. The city of Constantinople boasted the first state-funded hospital that was administered by the early Church.

The Order follows the Eastern Orthodox tradition, though the Order’s activities, projects and other involvements are entirely autonomous. We hope to continue in that tradition of health by way of the integration of body, mind and spirit with a naturopathic approach coupled with counseling and Christian sacraments such as Reconciliation.

We have a number of projects we’re working on including finding a permanent home which will include a priory, chapel, library and wellness center. We have plans for other wellness centers around the world as well as hospice centers, the first in southeast Florida, where our headquarters is located.

Challenge yourself to find a deeper, more compassionate meaning to your life. Join and support us in our missions and efforts. We offer  three different categories of involvement, one of which will be right for you!
